Milk Thistle
Milk thistle preparation have been used in European medicine for over 2,000 years for the treatment of liver diseases. Silymarin the active constituent of the milk thistle seed, consists of four flavonolignans called silibinin (silybin), isosilybinin, silichristin (silychristin), and silidianin. Silibinin makes up about 70% of silymarin. When ingested, silymarin undergoes enterohepatic recirculation and has higher concentrations in liver cells. Silymarin and silybin inhibit beta-glucuronidase, which might help protect against hepatic injury and possibly colon cancer. Inhibition of beta-glucuronidase is thought to reduce the hydrolysis of glucuronides into toxic metabolites in the liver and intestine.
Dandelion Root
Dandelion is mainly used as a diuretic but it is also an appetite-stimulating bitter tonic, thought to be useful to treat stocach, liver, gall bladder and rheumatic complaints. It has two particularly important uses; to promote the formation of bile and to remove excess water from the body in edema conditions resulting from liver problems. By acting to remove poisons from the body, it acts as a tonic and stimulant.
Artichoke Leaf
The leaves of the plant and the dry extract, prepared from them contain substances of high biological value (caffeylquinine acids, cynarine, lutheoline, flavonoids) which have a favorable effect on liver functions. One of the functions of the liver is to neutralize all toxins, resulting from the breakdown of food, alcohol and medicines and to eliminate (excrete) them from the body with the bile.
Artichoke leaf extract helps to increase bile secretion; it stabilizes the cell membrane of liver cells, restores their normal function and thus protects the liver from damage. By increasing bile secretion, it reduces the risk of gastrointestinal disorders, associated with gas formation, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. In addition, it also acts as an antioxidant - on the one hand it decreases production of cholesterol in the liver while on the other hand it increases the rate of its transformation into bile acids, which eliminate it from the organism with the bile.
Vitamin B Group
Vitamin Bs are organic compounds in food that are needed in very small amounts for various metabolic processes and other functions and are linked together in several chemical ways.. Although present in many foods, the B-group vitamins are delicate and easily destroyed, particularly by alcohol and cooking (B vitamins tend to leak into cooking water). Aside from other functions it acts in onešs body, Vitamin B group is especially important to help liver to function normally by neutralize all toxins, resulting from the breakdown of food, alcohol and medicines.
